New members are always welcome.Valley Of The Waters Bushcare Group was formed in October 1996 by the Blue Mountains Conservation Society.
Prior to the Bushcare Group forming, some members of the Society had undertaken weeding in the area around the Conservation Hut and along the Nature Trail on an occasional basis.
The Bushcare site is in the Valley Of The Waters at Wentworth Falls, mostly within the Blue Mountains National Park. The site extends from the vicinity of the Conservation Hut around the rim of the valley to West Street and includes the Wentworth Falls Picnic Area.
The area has some stunning views over the valley and beyond, as well as a variety of vegetation communities, geological features, flora and fauna. The site is also a popular tourist destination and contains many bushwalking tracks.
The Group consists of members of varying ages and backgrounds, who enjoy the social interaction, as well as working together to improve the local bushland areas.
This Bushcare group operates under the NSW National Parks volunteer program and is part of the larger Blue Mountains Environmental Protection Program.
What We Do
The work mostly involves weeding, but we also undertake planting, light and simple erosion control work and brush-matting to contain and define tracks.
Occasionally, we also have weeding and/or planting events and some members undertake a remote walk down into the valley to work along the creek-lines.
We work predominantly around urban areas, walking tracks, watercourse edges, drainage lines and tourist areas to reduce the threats of weeds, erosion and sediments affecting surrounding bushland and hanging swamps.
The Group liaises closely and receives support from the National Parks and Wildlife Service and Blue Mountains City Council. Assistance has also been provided by local TAFE students, local bush regenerator contractors and Green Corps.
