A Collection of Links to articles on Transport Environmental Issues
Transport contributes substantially to Global Warming by the amount of carbon dioxide emmitted as a result of burning fossil fuels. There are a number of ways to combat this, both now and in the future, such as in the (incomplete) list below:
- Replacing fossil fuels by renewable fuels, eg. alcohol from (non fossil) plant material.
- Making combustion engines more efficient.
- Only using combustion engines that are large enough for the task in hand and no larger.
- Reducing the weight of vehicles.
- Reducing speeds (which will improve safety).
- The use of electric propulsion. Electric motors are much more efficient than any combustion motor.
- Greater use of public transport - which means that public transport will need substantial improvements.
- Greater use of rail transport to replace road bulk transport (road trucks)
