Transport contributes substantially to Global Warming by the amount of carbon dioxide emmitted as a result of burning fossil fuels. There are a number of ways to combat this, both now and in the future, such as in the (incomplete) list below:

• Replacing fossil fuels by renewable fuels, eg. alcohol from (non fossil) plant material.
• Making combustion engines more efficient.
• Only using combustion engines that are large enough for the task in hand and no larger.
• Reducing the weight of vehicles.
• Reducing speeds (which will improve safety).
• The use of electric propulsion. Electric motors are much more efficient than any combustion motor.
• Greater use of public transport - which means that public transport will need substantial improvements.
• Greater use of rail transport to replace road bulk transport (road trucks)
